Gone are those days when the woman of India was thought to be a mere servant of the household. She is now getting out pursuing her dreams. She is not bound now to be seated against the earthen furnace for cooking meals for the family, washing their clothes and nursing the babies and even the elders leaving behind all her ambitions, her abilities, her wishes to fly high in the horizons when she was an ocean in a young body.
Soon after she left her school she was being dragged back continuously for compromising her choice for her studies suggesting all the time that she is not going to live an independent life as a professional and the only destiny of her being limited to her husband and his family, helping to do all what a servant is supposed to do for a monthly salary. Her only life was limited to a house where she grew, and her rest of the life will be a house where she will live and die never for herself but for everyone else in the family.
Her father and her mother would always have encouraged her to get 90 % in her subjects, she was also availed a tutor in the house after her school time. On her school trips her parents would also have taken care of her safer journey, giving the trip in-charge their telephone numbers and assuring again and again when the bus would come to pick her and when to drop. They would make sure of getting their daughter have enough money for the trip so that she may not face any kind of problem there.
She would come back after her trip and shown her family her group photos with the teachers and classmates on which the whole family would be cheering and also satisfied of her safe return.
It was now time for the college where she graduates in the coming three year’s time, having once or twice every year the relatives of her suggesting boys for her marriage. But she been able to deny those proposals expecting a wonderful life of her working for some multinational organization and helping her family in the expenses. But all of a sudden someone would have suggested another name for her to her parents and everyone except her would have confirmed the name to be tied lifelong with her. And she was now to step down stairs of the building of dreams she just constructed a few days ago. She has now tears in her heart, not in her eyes and she has an ocean of emotions in her eyes, but not in her heart. She was now about to kill her dreams and her very life as “herself” for the sake of her relations just because they thought and decided what was right for her life but not her. She is now getting ready to sign her authority to someone she would not if she would have given the authority to decide her life herself. She now has a thousand unspoken wishes struggling to come out of her eyes, a thousand dreams left untouched and the only regret of her life –“her life”.
From now she will be called a “Woman”.
